How Will You Achieve Your Goals, If You Don't Believe Them?

Goals

I was talking with an agent, “Janice” today, and asked if she planned on closing at least two sales a month in 2010.  I could tell by the look on her face the answer was no.  She could not even imagine that much in sales.  She tried to notch up the optimism and said, “I should plan on it, I know….”.

Well,  guess what? If you don’t plan on making a certain number of sales-- if that number is not even in your realm of possibility-- then what are your chances?  Will someone who never pictures himself in a new home ever own one?  Will someone who feels she is undesirable ever attract a mate?  Will a father who expects bad behavior from his child ever achieve peace? It is doubtful you will do or receive any better than what you imagine. We must fulfill our beliefs about ourselves.

Read the following “imaginings” and see if you can find the key to achieving your dreams.

Imagine - You develop a system of handling 20 sales per month, but you have a problem, you need to hire another assistant.  Where will they sit?

Imagine – You have bought your dream home in the mountains, but the road is difficult in winter.  Do you need to buy an SUV?

Imagine – You lost 40 pounds, but you were saving a fantastic dress for a cruise.  Where can you find the best tailor?

Imagine – You’ve finally found your perfect spouse.  You’ve been married for two years, and you want to start a family.  Where will you move?

Are you getting the picture?  The clue to success in achieving our dreams is accepting them as already here!  And then… moving beyond that reality.  When you accept something as if you have already achieved it, your outlook will change, and you will relax.  You will stop sending too much “want” energy  into the universe and will be able to bring forth your goals naturally, because it’s already done!

Hi Wendy,

Excellent post!

I totally get this, it's unfortunate so that sooo many people don't.

Thanks for posting.

Hi Wendy... what you are describing is exactly the reason I write out a business plan and measure my results against it.  My business plans may be "optimistic" but I know that if I limit myself to what is easily attainable that I will never achieve all that is possible.

Hi Wendy. It's a shame that people don't push themselves. I would NOT mind spending money to have something altered, if it meant that I had dropped a few pounds. I would not mind driving 50 miles to the car dealership if it meant that I could afford to pick up the new car of my choice. I'm gonna check out that book!

I like your reasoning on this one Wendy.  Any one can have goals of any magnitude.  To plan and work to make them come true is a completely different story.

Roy - So glad you like it.

Steve - Cool on you!

Melissa - Yes, the point is, don't just think about "striving" for the goal, imagine AFTER you got the main goal, what next?  It makes the goal "accepted" in your brain.

Gabe - And they are already true!

Wendy, as always a great post.  You know me, I believe in planning and stretching myself to reach the goals that I planned.  When I first got into this business in June 2006, my mentor told me, you have to plan to get one listing and one sale per month, when you master that, plan for one listing and one sale per week, and when you master that, plan for one listing and one sale per day.  One per day is what we are shooting for in our 5 year plan, we are 3 into it.

I love the saying, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!!

Laura - Just keep that image in your mind.  What are you gonna do with all those clothes that don't fit?

Jeff - You are a dynamo!  I think it is phenomenal you are into year three and on track!
