Yesterday I received this email from a potential Rosemary Beach, Florida real estate buyer.
Dear Wendy Rulnick:
We found you on the web. We were set on looking for a home between Rosemary Beach and Grayton Beach south of 30A. Our question is, how do you feel the long term impact of the oil spill will affect the area?
Thank you, "Unsure"

Dear "Unsure",
I sincerely think it is a big unknown. Obviously, there will be knee-jerk reactions at first should the oil hit our area on the Florida Panhandle. Buyers will be concerned because there is no definitive answer, and may put off real estate purchases. Thus, it might create more downward pressure on pricing. I think those who really love the 30-A, Rosemary Beach area in South Walton County, Florida, will still seek those communities. There are economic and area improvements coming due to the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City. Another area-wide community-booster is Eglin Air Force Base's new F35 Joint Strike Fighter training program.
Meanwhile, BP tells us they will do whatever they need to keep our beaches beautiful. It is a top priority locally and at the state level. Governor Crist is fully involved. Walton County has both a protection and restoration plan.
Let me know if you want to find a home in Rosemary Beach, Grayton Beach or 30-A. I have a team of highly trained buyer specialists, and will put you in good hands.
Sincerely yours,
Rulnick Realty, Inc.

Wendy: I was thinking the other day that I had not read any blog posts about real estate and the oil debacle. These are legitimate concerns, but your letter is awesome!
Melissa - These are legitimate concerns. They cannot be "fluffed" over. We live here.
As though Florida needs another hit to the real estate market. Sad. Sad.
Lenn - We are just sick...
If you believe it will eventual be cleaned up, what a negotiating tool!
On the other hand pity the poor sellers and their agents,
Florida didn't need this. Who would?
Bill
Bill - It will.... eventually. We are holding our breath.
Wendy, As if we didn't have enough objections to over come in the real estate industry, now throw in a man made disaster for good measure.
Wendy...I know you will all do well....If I could come to the beach right now, I would. Oil or not. I could walk up away from the water, and use a condo or hotel pool.
Best of luck....I'll be sure to remember YOU in Destin...it's a big market from here in ATL!
Wendy, thanks for posting this. We are getting questions here also about the possible future impact of this disaster.
Every day I watch the "How are we going to cap this well?" debacle on the news. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California and I would be nothing short of sick if the same thing happened to our shorelines. I hope beyond hope that BP really WILL step up and spend the money for a true clean up unlike Exxon after the Valdez spill. That resulted in a 21 year court battle.
Steve - Agree, it is worse than a hurricane in many respects... :(
Thom - I apprecate that!
Gabe - Yesterday I got four oil-related emails in one hour.
Wendy - It's predicted to hit Destin today. I don't want to hear excuses, just want it fixed like everyone here.
