I have been blogging steadily since the beginning of 2008. I have used forums on Blogger, here and other venues. It first began as a way to express opinions on the real estate market. It was and is a great outlet. Then it grew to become an educational avenue for other Realtors and the general public. I have since written about 150 posts, ranging from short sales to market statistics and occasionally off-topic commentary or stories. I have found a tremendous response from my fellow real estate bloggers and consumers, alike. On an almost daily basis, I receive phone calls and emails from Realtors and the general public from all over the country with real estate questions, usually involving today's hot topic, short sales.
Today, I noticed my local newspaper, the Northwest Florida Daily News, has a blogging platform, so I thought, "Why not give it a shot? That way, I can be more connected with the local market." I went ahead, filled out a profile, and entered my first blog, Countrywide Wants Short Sale Buyers' Social Security Numbers, one of my most recent posts. Three minutes later, I received a comment! I was excited -"What a fantastic new avenue!" I thought. Except it wasn't a nice comment. The writer said, "Thanks for the info, Wendy, but I prefer advertising on your signs." Ouch. I had a choice. Publish it or reject it. I chose to publish. And I responded, "Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry if you didn't find the information helpful. Perhaps others will."

Some people don't know that it better to remain silent, than to say something hurtful or inappropriate.
Wendy ... thanks for your article and whether to publish adverse comments at your blog. There will always be detractors. Don't worry, and keep moving forward with good writing and ideas. Best wishes.

You go girl, take the high road. As one who has emailed you with crazy short sale questions, I think that sharing you knowledge no matter the forum is a great and generous thing.
That's why I like this site. People's comments on here are usually quite positive and helpful. I think people can get more negative on their posts on a site where they can be anonymous.
Take care,
Tim
Mott- Thank you. I don't get it. Maybe because it's not where I am coming from.
Harrison- I do appreciate your encouragement.
Laura- Thanks! I am having my doubts about the local paper, though!
Tim- I think you nailed it. Anonymous.
That was great that you took the high road. Nothing positive would be gained from mixing it up with the person who wrote that comment in response to your blog. I think that mean spirited comments should be deleted if it get's too personal.
I think we have all had those moments at one time or another and they should always be handled with grace and style.. Since this is generally the area the other person may be lacking in it is a good idea to throw them off their negative high horse with some mindfulness.
Lynn 911- Thanks for your support.
Rolanda- Thank you. Yes, I agree. One really does expose oneself by blogging. All kinds "out there".
Jennifer - My first thought was to delete the whole blog, is that bad or what? But I got over it! I like your soothing thought "mindfulness".
Hey Wendy. . . well done.
I agree . . Mean spirited comments have no benefit to anyone
What's the sales climate like in your "neck-of-the-woods?"
We still are seeing relatively high prices by our sellers who seem almost blind to the economic realities of this market. It's basically a battle of wills at this point.
Thanks for your post. Good luck in the future.
Aloha

Jim - Thank you. Appreciate it. Prices down, oversupply. Four-six years inventory.
Good for you Wendy. When someone is being mean spirited and gets a nice response, or no response, you are taking all the air out of their mean little balloons!
Sharon, Yea! I found it rather disheartening, however. I found out the commenter posts vulgar comments all over the paper's site. Believe it or not, I deleted my blog from the site. I really would rather deal with the professionals on Activrvain.
Some will, Some won't, So What?
I often think about this--sometimes I'll post something and then get the "guilts" But, you are who you are most will find something in what you write, others just won't. I don't think "mean" is good but so often, folks who disagree with a point of view take what you write as mean-spirited. When you write with both head and heart engaged, I don't think you can go wrong.
