I am all over the internet. Just type in "Wendy Realtor Mary Esther Florida". I promise I'll pop up on page one of google at least five times. You'd think that would help when the seller lost my telephone number. It didn't. Sad ending for me, happy ending for another "Wendy". What happened?
About a month ago a couple contacted me who wanted to sell their home in Mary Esther Florida. They had gotten my name from a friend who had dealt with me. I discussed their housing situation with them, and determined they probably needed to do a Short Sale. I explained the Short Sale process in detail, and immediately emailed them my Short Sale package. I sent a subsequent email with my listing documents. I didn't hear back from the Mary Esther sellers for a few days, so I called and left a message. They never called me back. I figured they had changed their minds. Next!
One month later, my assistant, Beverly, asked whatever happened to the couple from Mary Esther. I went through my files, found their number and tried calling them again. Guess what??? They thought they had been dealing with ME for the past month, when it was a different "Wendy"! The whole time, they thought the other agent was the "Wendy" their friend had recommended, and the "Wendy" they had originally spoken with (ME). How could it be?! They said they never got my emails and lost my telephone number, so they did a google search for "Wendy Realtor Mary Esther". They said they found another "Wendy" and it assumed it was me! Apparently, she didn't try to correct their mistake- the sellers must have referred to our initial conversation. In a way, it is funny. My marketing efforts have paid off nicely... for "Wendy"!
It's Wendy!

Sorry to hear about this turned south on you. The other person better be very gratful. However, it does show that you are really the one putting forth a lot of effort. And the sellers will probably question the other "Wendy" a little bit more.
Dave - I am mystified! I think the other agent would have had a clue she was being mistaken for me!
Bummer. You would have thought they would find your number, confirm conversations, etc.
Jen - This has never happened to me before (I think?)
How frustrating! My last name has a silent "g" so most people can't spell it or pronounce it, so I started using DebOnTheWeb in 1995 so I wouldn't be confused with anyone else.
Deb - That's a good one!
Well that sucks Wendy!!! Fortunately I'm the only Bryant anywhere near my neck of the woods that sells real estate so I have never had that happen(that I know of).
I really love "DebOnTheWeb". That's awesome!!!
Bryant - I believe it must have happened more than I know. I am the only "Wendy" who has taken billboards and years of promotional ads in newspapers, magazines, etc, using "It's Wendy! It's Sold!" You are lucky you are a Bryant!
That is unfortunate. Its hard to belive that the seller lost all of your contact info and just assumed they had found the correct Wendy. Thats a pretty dirty agent if you ask me.
Sounds like this agent capitalizes on your advertising. I wonder how many other times she has been contacted and just played along. It's a dog eat dog world, I guess she figured she could make money and the heck with being honest about who she is.
Justin - It is hard to believe after the lengthy conversation we had.
Gregory - l am now suspecting the same thing.
That's why I'm glad my name is Cecily.....not many of us out there so no problem. Sorry that happened to you...
Cecily- Thank you! And that's a really pretty name.
Wendy - Something in this whole mess just hasn't set well with me. It's bothered me quite a bit since I commented earlier. I wonder if the buyer has been totally honest with you, or if she just decided to work with another agent and just couldn't tell you the truth. Her response to you...it's a bit hard to lose a number, then get a voice mail and ignore it, not get email, and talk with another agent and not know it is the same person. None of it really fits.
You talked to her, did you sense anything fishy? Was her voice tone shaky or questionable? I used to knock doors many years ago. I set 20 appts. a day, and only had about 4-5 of those show up, and I have also done telemarketing...and after doing that for awhile it becomes almost too easy to hear a lie on the phone and to sense when things just aren't right. I'm glad I had those experiences when I was young, it certainly has helped me over the years.
Gregory - I checked, there is another "Wendy" in my MLS system. They did sound giggly and embarrassed on the phone. I honestly think this couple was not too sharp. I also think the other agent played along and really needed the business.
I'm sure "needing the business" in these tough economic times is an excuse many may use to justify acting a bit outside of the ethical boundaries. I've never been able to do it though. I also own a Newborn Annoucement Service and am part of a National Franchise. We have the "cadillac" of the industry, and I have had people call and ask me if I put up their Stork before. It would be easy to say yes. I refuse to do that though. They may want the same company again as they want to remain consistant with their previous product and keepsake bundle.
If they don't know, I send them to my website so they can see for themselves, and I ask them to compare in case they like our product better if they did use a competitor before. Sometimes, I win, and sometimes I lose. To me, there would be nothing worse than to cross the ethical boundary, then have to face them when they figured out I wasn't honest with them. I firmly believe in customer service and honesty first and foremost, and just can't figure out how others so easily operate outside of ethical boundaries. Not having a conscience has to be a terrible way to live, but I guess they wouldn't know that.
Wendy now that is a real bummer! The are too many SEO imposters in your neck of the woods I guess - LOL
Gregory - The dishonesty always come back. Ditto with reward for being honest.
Bill- Funny thing is, she has no SEO! Something is amiss. I question what I could have done differently. I think my emails to them were too big, or went into their spam filter. I should have called them back twice. In the end, this will save me future biz, because I learn from my mistakes.
Thats tough especially since they found her by googling wendy realtor and didn't get your e-mails either.
Charles - It's suspicious... Emails didn't get bounced back to me, either.
